Assignment Work.
My client is an anchor for a Vietnamese cable network channel in Little Saigon, Westminster, Ca., U.S.A., so I pose her in a way that reflects her personality.
To give this picture a spiritual mood, I direct my client to look up in a way that points her face toward the basilica right side cross. Meanwhile, remembering a pointer from my colleague friend, I make sure that the tip of her nose won't stick out of her face contour. Thank you Nguyen Thanh Son!
As my client requests to be photographed at her high school alma mater, I pose her in the courtyard making sure that the school name Marie Curie is shown along with Mrs. Curie statute.
This is no snapshot, I planned it carefully. The day before, I scouted the location and noticed the cyclo row and the shade tree. Without the cyclo to sit her in and the tree branch for foreground, the picture sure would be dull to look at.
This picture is so simple that anybody with good taste will be able to make it easily. Just be sure to use the vertical composition.
One of Jackie Kennedy's popular picture is the one showing her crossing the street. Here, I want to make a tribute to the late elegant lady by posing my client alike. On the shooting day, I didn't have my assistant to light up my client's face either with a portable flash or a reflector. So afterwards, I had to ask the lab to use Photoshop to lighten her face up. In Saigon, most labs will do it for you with no extra charge. Just make sure that they don't overdo it, since the local folks would love to have their dark skin tone lightened to the ridiculous limit.
